TEHRAN – Head of Iran’s National Olympic Committee (NOC) Mahmoud Khosravi Vafa will attend 26th General Assembly of the Association of National Olympic Committees (ANOC) in Seoul, South Korea.
Khosravi Vafa departed for Seoul Monday evening.
The Seoul Metropolitan Government is to ramp up its drive for hosting international sports events in the future, including the 2036 Summer Olympics.
Seoul is currently hosting the 26th General Assembly of ANOC, which runs until Friday, and the city government aims to use the event as a springboard for its 2036 bid.
Khosravi Vafa, who was elected as new head of Iran’s NOC, will likely meet IOC president Thomas Bach in his visit to Seoul.
The ANOC General Assembly is a meeting of representatives of 205 National Olympic Committees around the globe. The event this year is expected to invite some 800 people including officials from the ANOC, as well as sports leaders from around the world.
The ANOC meeting is sometimes referred to as the United Nations General Assembly of the sports world.
